Hi. Through watching this video and the one relating to the R44 I purchased a R44 recorder. A great machine, thanks! I went on to buy a second one for 8 track location recording. By the way,the manual is incorrect in that you don't just connect a cable between the 2 and assign one of them "master". You must first turn both machines off, then connect the cable and fire up. Also in your blurb you say the "master" controls all record functions of both machines. Yes it does - all in true sync. What it doesn't say anywhere is that you cannot play the 2 machines back in sync, therefore the client cannot audition his/her take using all 8 tracks in playback mode; there is a 2 second gap between the two R44's playing back together. Can this be changed so that playback is also in sync? I know I can put all tracks into - say - Sonar and hear /edit them, but I don't want to have to take a laptop with me to do so. My arms have stretched 3 inches over the past 20 years through carrying bulky gear! Reading your advert/spec on the R44 lets me think Roland new of this problem, but couldn't alter it. Do you want to buy a very nearly new R44?

According to Roland technical support, that is the way those units are designed to work. The Master/Slave relationship is not designed to enable 8 track recording or playback. The master unit communicates with the slave via serial protocol which is fairly slow in electronic terms. The two second gap that he mentions is normal.
