Projector and Lamp Care

Projectors are complicated machines.   We want you to be able to get the most out of yours.  Can you make a difference in the life of your projector?  Yes, you can.

When you turn your projector off, allow the unit to fully power down before you cut power to the unit.  The projector goes through a cool down cycle of several minutes.  If you allow this cycle to go through, you will extend the life of your unit.  This will help your lamp last longer.

If your projector is on, and you are going to be using it again in less than an hour, it is best to just leave it on.  Every time you “strike” the lamps, it eats away are your lamp hours, so the fewer times you can do that, the better.

Clean the filters on your projector.  This should be done every two to three months, depending on environmental conditions.  You will use a dry air source to clean off the filters in your projector.   Check your service manual for specific filter cleaning steps, which will be specific to your unit.

Do not operate your projector without the filters in place.  The filters protect the projector from dust in the room.  Running the projector without the filters will harm your unit.

Set up a scheduled cleaning for your projector.  You projector needs to be cleaned by an Authorized technician once every two years.  This will not only help your projector stay brighter for much longer, it will help your projector run much cooler (which will extend the life of your projector significantly).

Ensure that your projector is properly mounted.  What does that mean?

Keep your projector in an environment with a stable temperature.  It is possible to get condensation under certain circumstances (i.e. The room gets really cold, you turn the heat up to warm it up before your presentation).

Read your operator’s manual.  Individual projectors may have specific maintenance requirements.
